Too Flimsy to be Effective

I gave this mat two stars because I like the design & it does a marginal job of protecting the wood floor under my daughter's highchair. It's too flimsy for our needs though and had I know this, I wouldn't not have purchased it. It's very lightweight and is easily kicked, rolled up, disturbed by common foot traffic. It is out of the way in our house but if you have a little one or two you can imagine how often it gets walked over and tugged on. I would have preferred a mat with more weight/heft. Ours also has a recent rip in the depth of the scalloped edge. I'm not very impressed.

Big upgrade from the towel we were using previously

This mat is very pretty, covers a wide area, and very easy to clean. It's not as thick as I envisioned it would be - it's basically plasticized fabric, and I think I expected plasticized canvas. The weight of the fabric is both good and bad. On the positive side, it's very easy to mold the mat around oddly shaped areas (for example, around the dining room table legs near our baby's high chair) because it's thin and pliable. On the negative side, it's very easy to kick this mat out of place because it has no heft to it.Overall, it's a big upgrade from the towel we were using previously, and I like that unlike a rubber mat or something bulky, it will be easy to store this once we're done with it. I think it will have future uses (e.g., arts and crafts center, drop cloth) beyond high chair drop zone protection!

Ordering my second one.

I ordered this splat mat for my son a few years ago. I liked the pattern and neutral color. He is four years old and we are still using it under his chair in our dining room. It has held up very nicely. I am now in need of an additional one for my 10 month old daughter and will be ordering this item again.
